What does Clarice Lispector whisper in your ear?

Jan. 4, 2021

As part of Princeton’s celebration of Clarice Lispector’s centennial, the Brazil LAB has launched the sonic library Clarice 100 Ears. Led by Marília Librandi (Spanish & Portuguese), in collaboration with Princeton faculty and students, the platform gathers writers, artists, scholars, and everyday readers from Brazil and around the world giving voice to Clarice’s writings.

The podcasts respond to this initial question:
O que Clarice sussurra ao seu ouvido? | What does Clarice whisper in your ear?

Clarice 100 Ears is an open-ended project and already features Lispector’s son and literary executor Paulo Gurgel Valente, author Jhumpa Lahiri and numerous Princeton faculty, biographer Nádia Gottlieb, indigenous artist Jaider Esbell, art curator Hélio Menezes, anthropologists Lilia Schwarcz, Carlos Fausto and Aparecida Vilaça, Canadian writer Claire Varin, Argentinian professor Florencia Garramuño, Italian critic Ettore Finazzi-Agrò, Japanese poet Kejiro Suga, among many others.

To celebrate Clarice’s life and work is a way to embrace all immigrants, all languages and silences, and the freedom of imagination.

The sonic library was launched on December 10, 2020 with a special video by the iconic Brazilian artist Chico Buarque reading excerpts from the short story As Águas do Mundo/The Waters of the World.
