Making Archives and the Work of Decolonizing
On Friday, September 20th, Miqueias Mugge, academic research manager at the Brazil LAB, led the first session of the new “Ethnographic Archivings” workshop series. The session, designed to delve into the materiality and assembly of archives, began with Mugge’s presentation on the epistemic thresholds of archival research. Drawing from his own work as a historian, Mugge shared insights into his methodologies for accessing, utilizing, and creating archives, emphasizing their crucial role in historical research, knowledge production, and preservation. Following Mugge’s presentation, the workshop continued with a visit to the special collections of Firestone Library, led by Librarians Fernando Acosta-Rodríguez and Ellen Ambrosone.
“Ethnographic Archivings” is organized by Nikita Taniparti (G2 ANT).
