The Brazil LAB expresses deep solidarity with our colleagues from the Museu Nacional in the face of the tragic fire that devastated this 200-year old cultural institution and its pioneer academic programs. Founded in 1818, the museum is Brazil's oldest scientific institution and one of the largest and most renowned museums in Latin America, amassing a collection of some 20 million scientifically and culturally invaluable artifacts. "We are all poorer today," as Professor Aparecida Vilaça notes: "for these objects, records, documents, recordings, papers, engravings no longer exist anywhere in the world."

We support our Brazilian colleagues' initiatives, looking for a vibrant rebirth.
