Brazilian Actress Fernanda Torres Wins Golden Globe for I’m Still Here
The Brazil LAB proudly congratulates Fernanda Torres on winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her arresting performance in Ainda Estou Aqui | I’m Still Here, directed by the acclaimed Walter Moreira Salles Júnior. Torres’ win represents a historic moment of recognition for Brazilian talent and critical storytelling on the global stage.
Set in the 1970s Brazil and inspired by true events, I’m Still Here portrays the Paiva family, whose lives were upended by the military dictatorship. In 1971, Rubens Paiva, a former leftist congressman, was arrested by the military and disappeared without a trace. The film focuses on his wife, Eunice Paiva, and her unwavering quest for justice. Fernanda Torres’ emotional depth and brave rendering of Eunice over time has been captivating audiences in Brazil (over 3 million people have already watched Ainda Estou Aqui).
Fernanda Torres’ connection to the Brazil LAB runs deep. She was a key contributor to the LAB’s digital platform Clarice, where her brilliant performance of Clarice Lispector’s iconic short story “O Ovo e a Galinha” was a standout feature. Fernanda also participated in in an event celebrating the artistic and critical legacy of the luminous Ukrainian-Brazilian author.
Warm congratulations, Fernanda! Your unwavering commitment to harnessing the creative and healing power of the arts and the humanities inspires us all!
