A Princeton-Mellow Initiative event with Danielle Stewart (former Princeton Mellon Fellow and current Assistant Professor of Latin American Art at University of Warwick), Fernando Luiz Lara (Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Texas at Austin), and Felipe Correa (Professor of Architecture at the University of Virginia).

In her recent book Potential History: Unlearning Imperialism, Ariella Aïsha Azoulay suggests that we must "unlearn" imperialist violence through the re-examination of established histories. This event reexamines the myths and narratives of Brazillian Modernism in an effort to "unlearn" restrictive colonial legacies and open up the possibility of more inclusive futures. The guest speakers will discuss the role of the architecture, urban planning, and the popular media in bringing about these changes in Brazil.
