Sir Angus Deaton is a Nobel Laureate economist. He is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of Economics and International Affairs Emeritus at the School of Public and International Affairs and the Economics Department at Princeton University. His scholarship focuses on the determinants of health in rich and poor countries, as well as on the measurement of poverty and inequality in the US, India and around the world. Deaton is the author of numerous award-winning articles and books, including The Great Escape: Health, Wealth, and Origins of Inequality and Deaths of Despair and the Future of Capitalism (with Anne Case).

Ricardo Paes de Barros is a leading Brazilian economist and policy-maker and holds the Instituto Ayrton Senna Chair at Insper Business School in São Paulo. His research is concerned with inequality and poverty, labor market, and education in Brazil and across Latin America. Paes de Barros has helped design one of Brazil’s most successful social policies –– the Bolsa Família –– and his work has been recognized through multiple international awards, including the innaugural Celso Furtado Award in Social Studies from the World Academy of Sciences. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Paes de Barros is also part of the advisory board of the Institute for Mobility and Social Development.

Thomas Fujiwara is Associate Professor of Economics and Associate Director of the Brazil LAB.
