PIIRS's Brazil LAB, the Princeton University Art Museum, and Princeton Garden Theatre welcome you to a free screening of Ex-Shaman (2018). Since their first contact with the Western world in 1969, the Paiter Suruí, an Indigenous people living in the Amazon basin, have been exposed to sweeping social changes. Ex-Shaman follows Perpera, a Christianized former shaman, as he searches for a way to restore vitality to his village. 

This film is shown in conjunction with the exhibition Denilson Baniwa: Under the Skin of History, on view at Art@Bainbridge. The gallery will be open until 7 p.m. Introduced by Carlos Fausto, Princeton Global Scholar and Professor of Anthropology at Brazil’s Museu Nacional.
